OUR Goals

OUR VISION:

We imagine the Bronx as a community known for its youth leaders who work collaboratively to dismantle oppressive structures that limit the potential and power of its residents. As a result of their participation in The WomanHOOD Project, racialized female, trans and gender non-conforming (TGNC) youth emerge as empowered, self-confident, and highly competent youth leaders who understand the historical and contemporary conditions that contribute to marginalization, and have the capacity to create positive change within their communities.

  • Promoting social emotional learning and positive identity development through social activism.

To promote the social emotional learning and positive identity development of racialized female and gender-expansive youth in Bronx, NY through experiences that build their capacity to: challenge discriminatory practices and stereotypes; take on leadership roles; participate in advocacy work; and help to advance systemic change for gender and racial justice.

  • Confronting stress, anxiety and social isolation through art-making and outdoor education.

To use art-making and engagement with the natural environment, in and beyond Bronx, New York, to encourage health and wellness practices that relieve stress, reduce anxiety, eliminate social isolation, and provide opportunities for physical exercise, relaxation, and play.

  • Extending organizational capacity through community partnership development.

To collaborate with other Bronx-based non-profit organizations in order to achieve our mission and vision, expand the number of youth we serve, and increase our impact on the out-of-school education field through the sharing of exemplary curriculum, teaching strategies, and program evaluation practices.
